QUESTION: Please confirm - dockets should only be dragged to the WIP entries section - if there is true financial error - a duplicate docket entry that has to be written off or a time for a docket has been entered in error i.e. 5 hours instead of .50 – transfers, etc.
Otherwise we should be able to make all modifications in the bottom of the screen in the billing section without issue – rates shouldn’t change especially if the client is set to Change Hours/Keep Rates.
RESPONSE: In regards to the question to confirm if a change to the time entry description from the billing section caused a change to the billing increment for the time entry - we confirm that it does not and changes to time entry description completed in the billing section are working as expected (includes updating the WIP so the description remains accurate).
You are correct, the WIP section is for corrections to the time recorded, including date, member, and a transfer to another matter as well as for a rate change that affects WIP, to take effect. For example, if lawyer asks that the time spent to draft a document is changed from 1.1 hours to 1.2 hours, the change must be made in WIP, so it is reflected accurately in his or her hours worked for accurate productivity measures and a basis for the efficiency measures once fees are determined. However if the lawyer asks to have a 1.1 hour entry be billed at a fee equivalent to 2.0 hours, then the modification needs to be made in the billing section and will be subject to the billing increment.
