NetDocs - How to Implement NetDocuments Integration with Acumin Using Acumin.EW

Overview

The integration between Acumin and NetDocuments is achieved through Acumin.EW (Enterprise Worksite), a licensed add-on database solution. Acumin.EW provides real-time views and tables from Acumin's production database — specifically client and matter property information — that third-party applications such as document management systems (like NetDocs) can access.

When a new client or matter is created in Acumin, the data is made available in real-time through Acumin.EW, which NetDocs can then use to automatically create corresponding workspaces/folders.

How the Integration Works

  1. Acumin.EW exposes client and matter data (client codes, matter codes, names, statuses, area of practice, etc.) through SQL views and tables

  2. NetDocs connects to Acumin.EW via an ODBC link to read this data

  3. NetDocs uses this data to automatically create and sync document workspaces when new matters are opened in Acumin

  4. The data in Acumin.EW is updated in real-time, so NetDocs can pick up new matters as they are created

Owner

Acumin.EW license activated (License_AcuminThirdPartySoftwareAPI)

Confirm with Dexco

NetDocs ODBC configuration — connect to Acumin.EW database

NetDocs consultant/vendor

ndOffice plugin installed on each user workstation (or Amazon Workspaces)

Client IT / NetDocs vendor

.NET Framework 4.6.1+ on the integration server

Client IT

  1. ☐ Confirm the Acumin.EW license is active in the environment

  2. ☐ Coordinate with NetDocs vendor to configure the ODBC connection to Acumin.EW

  3. ☐ Validate client and matter data is flowing correctly through the views

  4. ☐ Install ndOffice plugin on user workstations

  5. ☐ Verify .NET Framework 4.6.1+ is present on the server

  6. ☐ Test end-to-end: create a new matter in Acumin → confirm NetDocs workspace is auto-created

  7. ☐ Roll out to all users

FAQ

Q: Does Acumin push data to NetDocs, or does NetDocs pull from Acumin?
A: NetDocs pulls data from Acumin.EW via ODBC. Acumin.EW simply exposes the data in real-time.

Q: What happens when a matter is created in Acumin?
A: The data appears immediately in Acumin.EW views. NetDocs can be configured to detect new entries and auto-create workspaces.

Q: Where do I get ndOffice information?
A: See NetDocuments ndOffice Support.
