QUESTION: We are wondering if Acumin has the ability to have two rates for one timekeeper based on type of work within one matter. These rates would to be available throughout all of our client and matters
RESPONSE: Matters are usually created in context of type of work - for example, a matter is created for employment contract review work, and another matter for work on COVID policy. As a result, the most natural way to rate time in context of type of work is by using work relevant rate categories and assign these to their corresponding matters. In tis case, the employment contract review work matter would be assign to a work related rate category with a rate for Lawyer 1 of 500.00 per hour, and the COVID policy with a different work related rate category with a rate for Lawyer 1 of 400.00 per hour. In this case as each matter is for a different type o9f work the timekeeper does not have two rates for the same matter.
If the difference in rate is based on activity, for example the employment contract matter associated to the rate category for employment contracts has Lawyer 100 at 500.00 an hour, but when Lawyer 100 performs a letter of intent and uses time code LOI - regardless of matter the activity is rated at 320.00 an hour, then the matter will have two different rates for the same timekeeper.
In conclusion, the matter itself cannot be divided into sub-work types, but a matter can include specially rated activities with the use of time codes with time code specific rates
