Minimum time value defaulted automatically when a new time entry is created.

QUESTION:

Is it possible to have a minimum time value automatically pre-filled when launching a new time entry? We used to have that in our old version of Acumin.

RESPONSE:

To clarify, the application does not support the concept of a minimum time being automatically defaulted when launching a time entry. While the system does support a minimum time configuration—set under System Settings > Defaults > Entries > General—this is applied only when a time value is entered that is less than the configured minimum.

For example, if the minimum time is set to 0.10:

  • Entering 0.05 in a time entry form will automatically round it up to 0.10 upon tabbing out.

  • The same applies within the timesheet—entering 0.07 would also be updated to 0.10.

  • For timers, the minimum time is applied after 6 seconds of use. Whether the timer runs for 10 seconds or several minutes, the minimum value of 0.10 will be displayed if it has not reached a higher value based on real duration.

However, there is no concept of a "default" time value being pre-filled when launching a time entry. This behavior was deliberately designed based on extensive user behavior analysis.

In earlier versions, the system incorrectly applied the minimum time as a default—causing new time entries to open with a preset value (e.g., 0.10). This led to significant time leakage, as users often forgot to adjust the value when the actual duration exceeded the minimum. The financial impact of this oversight was greater than any operational efficiency gained from auto-filling entries.

By starting with a blank or 0.00 value (which cannot be posted), the system prompts users to consciously enter the actual duration of their work—ensuring more accurate and intentional time recording.

In summary:

  • Minimum time is enforced only when entered time is less than the threshold.

  • There is no default time value applied when launching an entry.

  • Timer entries apply the minimum after 6 seconds to avoid capturing accidental openings.
