Financial statement "From" date parameter greyed out - how to execute prior year statements

QUESTION:  If the From date of the financial statement filter is grayed out with 01/01/YYYY, how does one run financial statements for the prior year? 

RESPONSE: As the to-date is only a default and it is available for modification, if you change it to any date, the system will automatically set the from date in context of the fiscal year end.
