Can a matter number included alpha-numeric or special characters?

Can we add dashes, symbols, or letters as part of the matter number for example where matter #45066 becomes matter #45066 -001 or matter #45066-RD?

The matter number field is defined as numeric within the database. This design decision was made at the on-set to create most effective functional and result outcomes when searching, ordering, and reporting information in context of matter records.

For users that prefer alpha codes instead of numerical ones, the application accepts user-defined alpha-numeric matter nicknames, and /or the use of favorites. For users transitioning from old alpha-numeric matter codes, the matter properties form includes a field for the old matter code and the matter search engine includes the option to search for and find a matter using the old matter number.
