QUESTION: We have received a bulletin from the Law Society of Alberta with respect to sanctioned individuals and companies form Russia and Belarus.
How can we enter the names in Acumin so that our conflict searches could potentially spot the names and not open any files to individuals and companies that may be on the list of sanctioned names.
There are close to 1000 names of individuals and companies.
Our initial thought is to open one client and matter and enter the names with a category like Affiliated or Adverse. Would we be able to enter that many in one client and matter?
We certainly do not want to open client for each of the names on the sanctioned list.
RESPONSE: The recommended process is to create them as persons (not clients) and not associated to any client or matter. When completing the person’s properties, update the sort order name to also show “… - Law Society Watch List”. Lisa Wilson would have in the sort order name, Wilson, Lisa - - Law Society Watch List. The application will automatically list Lisa Wilson as a Primary contact to herself. Change the primary contact to a new parties represented category labeled “Law Society Watch List Conflict Requirement”
When opening a new client or a matter with Lisa Wilson as the client, party represented or other party, the initial search results will show that she is on a watch list (sort order name shows). If you select her as the client, the party represented or other party for the new client or matter, she will also show on the potential conflict results as being on the watchlist and as a “Law Society Watch List Conflict Requirement”
This also allows you to search all by contact category “Law Society Watch List Conflict Requirement” or name includes Watch List.
