QUESTION: We have a new partner that currently shares Ownership/Origination with a client that currently has several hundred sub-matters with another partner. Is there a global method to modify this change all at once, rather than having to go into all each sub-matter to change the Ownership/Origination?
RESPONSE: Most of the firms dealing with large volumes of role changes engage us to develop a programmatic database update. The rules are always different depending on the scenario and it is the complexity of the rules that drives the cost of the initiative. In this case, if the update is for all the matters on one client with the same share composition and effective date, we are likely looking at 2.5 to 3.0 hours of work unless you need to review the result first before it is applied in which case that would add an extra hour.
