Rate categories and special client, matter and/or time code rates

QUESTION: While updating an individual rate yesterday, I noticed that all of the rates that should show up as “Base Rate”  are showing up as “Postage”. I have been unable to find where or how to change this in Acumin.

Can you please confirm that the language has changed at some point and if there were any other updates done?

RESPONSE: We can confirm that there have been no changes or updates to change the labels of rate types. We continue to use the label rate category, of which only one can be set as base rate, and the labels special rate for set up of special client or matter member rates applicable to all time codes (most common use case) or specific ones.

The example provided is for the special rate set up for client (1000) Underwriters at Smithson. The client and matter tab content shows all the clients and matters with special rates set up. The content for special rates shows that client (1000) Underwriters at Smithson has a special rate of 400.00 for member 8, when he uses the time code postage on any of its matters. It is the same for the other example for a different member, different rate but same time code.

The base rate is a rate category. The label of any rate category is controlled by the firm – meaning it is how the firm decides to label the rate category. Only one rate category can be identified as the base rate for the firm. Its label can be base rate or any other – for example standard rate.

Every client must have a rate category to serve as the default for when a new matter is created for the client. This rate category is visible on the information tab of client properties. In this case the special rate form for client (1000) Underwriters at Smithson, shows that this client has the rate category labelled “base rate” as the default for when new matters are created. Regardless of the rate category assigned to the client, it is the rate category assigned to the matter that is used to value a time record, unless there is a special client or matter level rate that takes precedence. So in this example if member 8 enters time using the postage time code on any matter for client (1000) Underwriters at Smithson, it will be valued at 400.00
